Social Media Manager
£25,000 - £30,000 GBP yearly
About the Role
Humanitarian Operations is looking for a creative, proactive and hands-on Social Media Manager to lead the organisation’s social media presence and help bring its projects, people and impact to a much wider audience.
This role is ideal for someone who can take an idea from concept to completion: developing creative concepts, planning production, filming, editing, publishing content and using performance data to improve future campaigns.
We are looking for someone who understands how to make people stop scrolling while communicating humanitarian work with sensitivity, clarity and purpose.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and manage social media strategies across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, Facebook and other relevant platforms.
* Generate creative ideas and develop recurring social formats.
* Plan and manage content calendars, campaigns, shoots and production schedules.
* Write hooks, scripts, captions and creative briefs.
* Film and edit short-form video content.
* Repurpose long-form footage and existing production material into engaging social-first content.
* Create behind-the-scenes, educational, interview, storytelling and project-focused content.
* Work with and direct UGC creators.
* Produce UGC-style advertising and organic social content.
* Appear on camera when required as a presenter or personality.
* Manage content from initial concept through to final publication.
* Monitor performance and use insights to improve future content.
* Analyse metrics including watch time, engagement, click-through rate, CPC, CPA, conversions and audience growth.
* Ensure all content reflects Humanitarian Operations’ values and communicates sensitive subjects responsibly.
* Work closely with internal teams, project staff, production teams and external contributors.
About You
You are a hands-on social media professional who enjoys creating content rather than simply managing a content calendar. You are comfortable developing ideas, organising production, filming, editing, publishing and analysing results.
You understand what makes people stop scrolling and know that content needs to be adapted for each platform. You are creative, commercially aware, organised and confident working independently.
You should be comfortable:
* Developing creative concepts from an initial idea.
* Writing strong hooks and scripts.
* Filming and editing short-form content.
* Managing multiple projects and deadlines.
* Working with creators and directing UGC.
* Appearing on camera when needed.
* Turning real stories and project updates into engaging content.
* Using data to test, learn and improve.
* Working sensitively with humanitarian and disaster-relief stories.
* Finding the balance between informative, emotional, entertaining and respectful content.
Essential Experience
* Experience managing social media accounts for brands, organisations, entertainment companies or businesses.
* Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts and Facebook.
* Experience creating short-form and long-form video content.
* Experience with filming and editing.
* Experience developing content strategies and managing content calendars.
* Strong copywriting and storytelling skills.
* Experience analysing social media performance.
* Excellent organisational and project-management skills.
* Confidence working independently and taking ownership of projects.
* A strong understanding of what makes content engaging and shareable.
Desirable Experience
* Experience working with humanitarian, charity or disaster-relief organisations.
* Experience working with entertainment brands, television or established intellectual property.
* Experience creating UGC-style advertising.
* Experience directing creators or managing UGC campaigns.
* Experience with paid social advertising.
* Experience building or marketing e-commerce products.
* Experience appearing on camera.
* Experience repurposing long-form footage into social-first content.
What You Could Be Working On
You may be responsible for developing content such as:
* Following a Little Heroes project from beginning to end.
* Creating behind-the-scenes content with production teams.
* Interviewing people involved in humanitarian projects.
* Producing educational short-form videos.
* Sharing real stories of progress and impact.
* Developing recurring social media series.
* Creating content with team members, volunteers and project participants.
* Producing UGC-style videos for campaigns and fundraising.
* Repurposing existing footage into engaging clips.
* Testing different creative approaches across multiple platforms.

We want to create content that is engaging, human and distinctive while treating every story and individual with dignity and respect.
What We Offer
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the organisation’s social media presence and play a central role in shaping how Humanitarian Operations communicates online.
You will have the opportunity to:
* Lead creative social media projects from concept to completion.
* Build a distinctive and engaging social media presence.
* Work across humanitarian, educational and storytelling content.
* Develop new formats and creative campaigns.
* Work closely with project and production teams.
* Use creativity to help more people understand and support humanitarian work.
* Make a measurable difference through content.
How to Apply
Please submit:
* Your CV.
* A short cover letter explaining why you are interested in the role with details of your experience with filming, editing, UGC, paid advertising or appearing on camera, where relevant.
* Examples of social media content, campaigns or projects you have created.
The key question we want you to consider is:
How can we make people stop scrolling while helping them understand, care about and support humanitarian work?
